If it was a continuous thing throughout the campaign with the squad increasing to 8 or 10 soldiers at a later point as the alien pod sizes got bigger and bigger then maybe it would be a worthwhile mechanic but as it stands now it always feels like a tax you have to pay early on to make the game fun and then its a non-factor for the rest of the playthrough.
